Roving Martini Mandate reporter the Princess Monkey writes from Cape Town where she’s been cocktailing with Marianne Fassler,  South Africa’s pre-eminent fashion designer.

Grey Goose ‘popped up’ at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week for Marianne Fassler, held at the Cape Town Convention Centre last Thursday

[July 24th]. Marianne’s label, Leopard Frock is synonymous with the most creative designer in South Africa. Her use of fabric, woven, embellished, re-modelled and worked into glorious feminine shapes are both inspiring and highly desirable.

It was a capacity crowd for a rainy windswept CapeTown winters day, the show started promptly at 5pm, the first for the day. As always with a Fassler show, we had a smooth production, creative music, think Ragga Bomb/Skrillex for a raucous finale and a stunning and innovative flow of gorgeousness from both models and garments.

Grey Goose provided 2 wonderful cocktails, Grey Goose le Fizz and Grey Goose Basil Grande. The le Fizz adds elderflower cordial, fresh lime and a dash of soda to the eponymous vodka.  Try this one at home – it’s a light, crisp, surefire crowd pleaser.  The Basil Grande is made with Grey Goose, Fresh strawberries, pomegranate syrup, fresh lemon and cranberry juice,  shaken with basil and black peppercorns – this is a more complex, soulful drink.  The cocktails and Marianne’s colourful own label champagne added to the festive atmosphere for the after party.

Marianne’s designs can be found at www.leopardfrock.co.za.
